Quick answer: Most home split AC compressor jobs in Dubai land between AED 1,800 and AED 3,800 all-in (part, labor and gas), based on 2026 price guides. Bigger 3 to 5 ton units run about AED 2,500 to AED 5,000 for the compressor alone. Tonnage, brand, compressor type and labor decide where you end up.
Chill Air has been trading in Dubai since 2018, so we have seen a few summers. We supply compressors from Copeland, Tecumseh, Mitsubishi, Embraco, LG and Kulthorn.
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Typical home compressor job (1.5 to 2 ton) | AED 1,800 to 3,800 all-in |
| Large units (3 to 5 ton) | About AED 2,500 to 5,000 for the compressor alone |
| Biggest price factors | Tonnage, brand, compressor type, labor and gas |
| Most common look-alike fault | A failed capacitor, which is a much cheaper fix |
| Is a repair always worth it? | No. On a 2-ton unit, a compressor job can cost as much as, or more than, a new budget AC |
| Replace the whole AC when | The unit is over 10 to 12 years old, or the quote is over about half the price of a new unit |
| Safe to DIY? | No. It involves refrigerant, high pressure and electrical work |
Think of the compressor as the heart of your AC. It pumps refrigerant around the system so heat moves from inside your home to the outside.
When it quits, the AC still switches on and the fan still blows. The air just is not cold, which in a Dubai August is a special kind of rude.
It also works harder here than in most cities: long running hours, 45°C afternoons, and dust on the outdoor unit. That is why summer is compressor failure season. If your AC struggles in the heat, read why your AC can't handle Dubai's extreme summer heat.
These ranges come from published Dubai price guides we checked in October 2026. Treat them as a guide, not a quote. They do not agree perfectly, and that is normal: brand, gas and labor change on every job.
| AC size | Published Dubai range |
|---|---|
| 1.5 ton split | AED 1,800 to 3,200 for the full job (part, labor, gas) |
| 2 ton split | AED 2,400 to 3,800 for the full job (part, labor, gas) |
| 2.5 ton split | No reliable published figure found |
| 3 ton | About AED 2,500 to 3,000 for the compressor (Daikin, 2025 guide) |
| 5 ton and above | About AED 3,500 to 5,000 for the compressor (Daikin, 2025 guide) |
The 1.5 and 2 ton rows come from a 2026 guide and cover the whole job. The 3 and 5 ton rows come from a 2025 villa guide for one brand and do not clearly separate part from labor, so read them as indicative. Some older pages still quote a 1.5 ton job from AED 1,000; newer data suggests that low end is optimistic.
A compressor swap takes roughly 3 to 4 hours, according to the same 2026 guide.
If a quote comes in far below these ranges, ask why. Is it a used or refurbished compressor? Does it skip gas or flushing? Cheap is only cheap if it lasts through the summer. You can browse our AC compressor range to compare brands and types.
Because the compressor is the one part you cannot cheat on, and replacing it is more than swapping a box. When it dies, the bill is rarely just the part.
| Cost driver | What happens | Why it adds to the bill |
|---|---|---|
| The part itself | A precision-built motor and pump that works under high pressure | Tight tolerances and heavy-duty parts cost more than most AC components |
| Flushing and a new filter drier | When a compressor fails inside, metal debris can travel through the pipes | Skip the clean-out and the new compressor can fail again |
| Skilled labor | Disconnect, remove, fit, braze and test. One 2026 Dubai guide puts it at 3 to 4 hours | Complex or hard-to-reach units take longer |
| Gas handling | Recover the old refrigerant, pressure-test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum, recharge | Needs proper equipment plus fresh refrigerant |
This is also why a very cheap quote should make you ask questions. The skipped step is usually flushing or the vacuum, and you pay for it later.
Which is best? For most homes, rotary or inverter gives the best balance of cost, noise and power use. For large or heavy-duty cooling, scroll is a strong choice.
At Chill Air, we supply compressors from leading manufacturers, including Copeland, Tecumseh, Mitsubishi, Embraco, LG and Kulthorn. These cover scroll, rotary and reciprocating types for home AC, commercial cooling and refrigeration. Here is what each brand is known for:
We also help with compressors for popular AC brands used in Dubai, including Daikin, LG, Carrier, Samsung, Gree and Midea. Browse the full compressor range, or send us your AC model and we will match the right compressor.
Whatever brand you choose, match the model number, refrigerant type (R410A, R32, R22), voltage and capacity of your old compressor. You can find these on the nameplate of your outdoor unit. Not sure which refrigerant you have? Read our guide to R32 vs R410A.
Compressors are not only for air conditioning. Restaurants, supermarkets, cold rooms, chillers and freezers in Dubai also depend on them, and they run non-stop in the heat.
Compact sealed compressors from makers such as Embraco, Tecumseh and Kulthorn are common in refrigeration. Larger cooling loads often use Copeland scroll compressors.
If you run a business and a cooling unit stops, every hour counts. Keep your model number and refrigerant type ready, and we can match the right compressor quickly. See our commercial refrigeration services and commercial kitchen equipment service if you need help on site.
Heads up: these signs can also point to a bad capacitor, which is a far cheaper fix. A capacitor replacement costs roughly AED 150 to 350 in Dubai and takes around 30 to 60 minutes. Ask your technician to test the capacitor first. That one check can save you a compressor bill of AED 2,000 or more. Read our guide to AC capacitor problems in Dubai, or see why your AC is not cooling properly and the most common AC problem in Dubai.

Do the maths before you decide. A 2-ton compressor job at AED 2,400 to 3,800 can cost more than a new budget 2-ton split (roughly AED 1,400 to 1,600) and sits close to mid-range ones (around AED 2,840). A new inverter unit costs more again, but it also cuts your electricity use. On an old AC, an expensive compressor job rarely makes sense.
If your compressor quote is close to the price of a new unit, you need these numbers. Typical retail prices for a new split AC in Dubai (October 2026):
| AC type and size | Typical price (AED) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 ton split | 1,000 to 2,000 | Small bedroom or home office |
| 1.5 ton split | 1,100 to 2,600 | Standard bedroom. Inverter and premium brands sit at the top |
| 2 ton split | 1,400 to 3,800 | Living room or master bedroom. Budget non-inverter models at the low end |
| 2.5 ton split | 2,500 to 4,000 | Larger rooms |
| 3 to 5 ton floor standing | 4,700 to 6,900 | Large living areas and villas |
Prices come from UAE retailers and price guides and change with promotions. Larger villa and central systems cost far more and are quoted per project.
And installation? The unit price is not the whole bill:
| Job | Typical cost (AED) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Labor only, standard split | About 150 to 600 | Many providers charge a callout plus an hourly rate. Hard-to-reach outdoor units cost more |
| Supplied and installed, 1.5 ton | 1,800 to 2,800 | Unit plus basic installation |
| Supplied and installed, 2 ton | 2,500 to 3,800 | Unit plus basic installation |

A compressor does not just cost money when you replace it. It costs money every month it runs. Typical monthly DEWA bills in Dubai, with AC running:
| Home type | Typical monthly DEWA bill (AED) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1-bedroom apartment | 300 to 600 | Higher in summer |
| 2 to 3-bedroom apartment | 500 to 1,100 | Peaks from June to September |
| Villa | 1,000 to 3,000+ | Summer months sit at the top of the range |
These are rough ranges and vary by building, usage and season. If your building uses district cooling, cooling is billed separately from DEWA. A chiller-free building leaves cooling costs out of your bill. The DEWA bill also carries the 5% housing fee.
This is why an old, tired AC is expensive twice: once for the repair, and again every summer in electricity. An inverter unit changes compressor speed instead of switching on and off, which can bring your bill down. A pre-summer preventive maintenance check also helps catch problems before a heatwave.
This is an illustrative example built from the typical Dubai prices in this guide. It is not a real customer job.
Say your 8-year-old 2-ton split stops cooling in July. The fan runs, but the air is warm. Here is how the decision plays out.
| Step | What happens | Cost (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Test the capacitor | The cheapest check first. If this is the fault, you are done | 150 to 350 |
| 2. Compressor confirmed | Quote for replacing the compressor, with labor and gas | 2,400 to 3,800 |
| 3. Alternative: new budget 2 ton, installed | Unit at roughly 1,400 to 1,600 plus labor of about 150 to 600 | About 1,550 to 2,200 |
| 4. Alternative: new mid-range 2 ton, installed | Unit at around 2,840 plus labor of about 150 to 600 | About 2,990 to 3,440 |
The verdict. If the capacitor is the culprit, fix it and move on. If the compressor has failed, the quote is well over half the price of a new unit, and the AC is already 8 years old. That points to replacing the whole AC, and a new inverter model also trims your electricity bill. If you go that way, see our AC supply and installation service in Dubai.
Now flip it. The same AC at 3 years old, with the compressor still under a parts warranty, is a different story. Fix the compressor and keep the rest of the system.
The lesson: test the cheap things first, compare the quote with a new installed unit, and let the age of the AC make the final call.

For home split ACs, 2026 Dubai price guides put a full compressor replacement at roughly AED 1,800 to 3,800 including labor and gas. Bigger 3 to 5 ton units run about AED 2,500 to 5,000 for the compressor.
About AED 1,800 to 3,200 in the newest guide we found, including labor and gas. Some older pages quote from AED 1,000. The final price depends on brand, compressor type and what else needs doing.
Often 10 to 15 years with regular servicing. In Dubai's heat and dust it may be shorter without maintenance.
Yes, if the AC is fairly new and everything else works. If the unit is over 10 to 12 years old, or the quote is more than half the price of a new unit, a new AC is often better value.
It is a precision part, and replacing it usually means flushing the system, fitting a new filter drier, recovering and recharging gas, and a few hours of skilled labor. Skipping those steps risks a second failure.
Rotary is generally quieter and more efficient for most homes. Piston is a simpler design, common in budget units.
Yes, and it is worth checking first. A capacitor replacement costs roughly AED 150 to 350 in Dubai, far less than a compressor.
No. It involves refrigerant, high pressure and electrical work. Use a qualified technician.
